Prior to declaration of correct weight, the connections of Its A Shame Billy viewed the photo finish before agreeing with the judges placings.

MALDONADO Bumped on jumping away by Its A Shame Billy which shifted out. Stewards questioned rider Miss C. King regarding her ride on the gelding. She explained that Maldonado was first up from a spell, and its normal racing pattern is to settle towards the rear of the field, she added that after receiving some interference at the start, she then allowed her mount to balance, in accordance with her instructions. She further added that Maldonado did not handle the track conditions, and for this reason she elected to keep Maldonado balanced until straightening, where she rode hands and heels for which Maldonado did not respond to her riding and put that down to the 72kg it was handicapped. Trainer Mr. G. Bedggood, confirmed the instructions to balance the gelding in the early stages, and that Maldonado does not like racing on tracks with give in them and was better suited to racing over longer distances then todays race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery. Miss C. King was advised that although Maldonado did not run on when under pressure in the straight, it was a concern that she lost contact with the bulk of the field, between the 800 and 400 metres, and was reminded to ride all her mounts in a manner that leaves no room for query.

ITS A SHAME BILLY On straightening was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of Bay Of Faith.
