Good (4), amended to Good (3) at 12.00pm prior to race 1

Stewards Panel:

Mr H Brewer (Chairman), Mr J Anselmi

Riding Changes / Jockey Information

Other Explanations:

On arrival on course, Stewards upgraded the track to a Good (3) at 12.00pm.

Also subsequent to inspecting the track, Stewards were concerned with the nature of the crossing near the 600 metres, which was quite uneven, with the approach side significantly raised. After further inspecting the track with senior riders engaged at the meeting, it was decided to proceed without remedial work, however the Club was notified that attention to the crossing to avoid further deterioration would be required prior to the next race meeting being held on the course.

There were a number of runners engaged today which had run in the past two days over the Easter period, namely Bemarydan (Race 1) Swifts Creek 1/4/2018, Ragtime (Race 1), Girls Got Stars and Playboy Spike (Race 3) and Lochend Sam (Race 6) Balnarring 31/3/2018, and Spin King (Race 1) Never Tempted (Race 2), Shes Just Rosie (Race 5) and Eco Road (Race 6) Tocumwal 31/3/2018. All of these runners were inspected by RVs Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race, and announcements were made to update patrons in respect to their recent form.

Race 1 equine constructions solutions trophy (1) handicap - 1100 metres:

DadnBris Shed Rider Geoff Brunsdon was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(i) for consecutive use of the whip on the gelding on three occasions prior to the 100 metres. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration Mr Brunsdons record in respect to whip use.

Ragtime Running to the 600 metres had to be steadied when racing tightly to the inside of Bemarydan, (Toby Lake) which shifted in slightly. Mr Lake was advised that he would be expected to do more to help his fellow riders in similar circumstances in future.

Race 2 yenckens mitre 10 maiden plate - 1200 metres:

Wooped Em Again On jumping away was hampered when tightened for room between Arcola and Can Get A Witness which both shifted ground slightly.

Arcola Raced wide without cover throughout.

Typhoon Tiger had to be steadied near the 100 metres to avoid the heels of Wooped Em Again (Laura Collins) which shifted out abruptly when attempting to take a run to the outside of Chosen Dream which was weakening. Stewards advised Ms Collins to exercise more care when shifting ground in future, and also due to her inexperience, spent time reviewing the incident with riders mentor Mr P Hutchinson.

Chosen Dream Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the race. Weakened badly on straightening. Rider Toby Lake could offer no further explanation for the poor performance of the mare today. A subsequent examination by RVs Veterinary Surgeon revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Race 3 oberon estate merrijig trophy (2) handicap - 1200 metres:

Rasputin Slow to begin.

Girls Got Stars Slow to begin

Dreamsdocometrue Slow to begin

Playboy Spike had to be steadied near the 250 metres when tightened for room by Pointing (Ray Douglas) which rolled in under pressure. Mr Douglas was advised that he would be expected to do more to ensure his mounts do not shift ground when in similar circumstance in future.

Race 4 DISTRICT PROPERTY GROUP LOYOLA RUN OPEN trophy handicap - 1200 metres:

Hay Buddy on jumping away, made contact with the gates which resulted in rider Laura Collins becoming unbalanced and subsequently being dislodged.

Race 5 THE HYGAIN MANSFIELD CUP - 1600 metres:

Diamond Warrior After becoming fractious in the gates, was removed and examined by RVs veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. In the middle stages of the race was obliged to race wide to improve its position.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Ray Douglas rider of second placed gelding Derek The Viking, requested to view footage of the concluding stages of the race to satisfy himself that he had in fact been beaten for first place. After viewing the footage Mr Douglas agreed with the judges placings and correct weight was declared.

Eco Road Jumped away awkwardly. Carried wide when turning out of the straight the first time by Derek The Viking. Near the 1000 metres had to be steadied off the heels of Lochend Sam when making ground while racing keenly.

Rey Luna On jumping away was steadied when tightened for room between Derek The Viking which jumped inwards and Earthling, which jumped outwards slightly.
