Race 1 yarra valley travel trophy 2 handicap - 1000 metres:

Salaqua Commenced awkwardly throwing its head.

Teebox Slow to begin. Near the 50 metres had to shift to the outside of Dead Ned Teds heels, which had shifted in and away from Ragtime which was laying in.

Ragtime Lay in under pressure in the straight.

Girls Got Stars Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Rider C Pace reported that the mare failed to muster speed in the early stages and lay out rounding the home turn. C Pace further added that in her opinion that mare would be better suited in races of further distance than todays 1000 metres.

Dead Ned Ted Rider G Seccombe was reminded of his obligations to ride all his mounts out fully to the end of the race.

Race 2 misread the situation stakes maiden plate - 1000 metres:

Hemingway Light As there was no riders available stewards permitted claiming rider N Newton to replace R Douglas as the rider of the mare. Lay in under pressure in the straight.

Show Bella Commenced awkwardly bumping with McIndoe Flyer. Reluctant to stride forward and race in the early stages. Trainer Mr J Rattle was advised that the mare is now suspended from racing until such time as it performs to the satisfaction of the stewards in a trial.

Endofcash Commenced awkwardly.

McIndoe Flyer Raced wide in the early stages.

Bettina Rider M Keenan reported that the saddle on the mare slipped back on jumping before continuing to slip further back throughout the race and for this reason he eased the mare down over the concluding stages resulting in the mare going to the line not fully tested. Raced wide without cover throughout.

Rich Impulse Performed below market expectations. Rider C Pace could offer no explanation for the mare which was having its first race start, other than it would take benefit from todays run. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Hip Hip Approaching the 100 metres had to be momentarily steadied and shift to the inside of the heels of Endofcash which shifted out under pressure.

In His Sights Rider G Brunsdon was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(i) for using his whip on consecutive strides on 2 occasions. G Brunsdon was further advised that he would be expected to break up his whip use over the final 100 metres and give his mount time to respond in future.

Race 3 the corcoran experience trophy 1 handicap - 1200 metres:

The Tale Of Aver Commenced awkwardly. Raced wide without cover in the early stages.

Aunty Porscher Slow to begin. Raced keenly when being restrained to obtain cover.

Hay Buddy Raced wide in the early stages before striding forward to obtain the lead near the 1000 metres. Over-raced in the middle stages. Commenced to lay out from the 400 metres allowing Bellefontein to obtain a run to its inside.

Robin The Rich Held up for clear running approaching the 400 metres behind Tickaloy before shifting back in to obtain clear running.

Bellefontein Hung out under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have punctured the sole of its off fore leg. Lost a near fore plate in running.

Race 4 ride the pony with tony open trophy handicap - 1200 metres:

Spirit Or Lager A Late scratching by order of the stewards at 7.38am. Trainer Mr G Andrews was severely reprimanded under the provisions of LR44(1)(b) for failing to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time. In not taking further action stewards noted that Mr Andrews actions had not cost an emergency a place in the field.

Albion Road Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover until passing the 700 metres.

Punjab Rocket Raced wide in the early stages before striding forward lead near the 900 metres

Eat The House Down Commenced awkwardly.

Keepcalmandcarryon Lay in under pressure in the straight.

Race 5 sutton grange winery healesville cup - 1650 metres:

Hell Of A Mess After becoming fractious and getting a leg up in the barriers underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which deemed the mare fit to take its place in the field. Trainer Mrs K Walker was notified that a warning would now be placed on the mare for its barrier manners. Raced wide without cover from the 1000 metres. Rider D Walker could offer no explanation for the mares performance other that it became worked up after becoming fractious in the barriers and this in her opinion was detrimental to the mares performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have an abrasion to its near hind cannon.

Earn A Quid Slow to begin and was then reluctant to stride forward in the early and middle stages.

Solar Bravo Restrained at the start to settle at the rear of the field.

Correggio (NZ) Raced wide without cover throughout. Lay in under pressure in the straight.

Race 6 the eh stakes trophy 3 handicap - 1650 metres:

Eye Em Are R Goodwin was fined $100 under the provisions of AR120(b) for accepting a ride for which he was overweight. As such stewards permitted M Keenan to replace R Goodwin as the rider of the mare. After contacting a fence in the mounting yard underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which subsequently passed the mare fit to race. Over-raced in the early stages. Near the 75 metres was brushed by Bayfury which lay out under pressure.

Carlsen After contacting a fence upon leaving the mounting yard underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which subsequently passed the gelding fit to race. Slow to begin and was then reluctant to stride forward.

Coureuse Controls Commenced awkwardly shifting out. Commenced to over-race near the 1200 metres when being eased from the heels of Becerikli.

Bayfury Carried out on jumping by Coureuse Controls which shifted out. Lay out under pressure in the straight.

CMon Honey Performed below market expectations. Rider C Pace reported that in her opinion the mare failed to handle the soft track conditions.

Rider N Newton (Bayfury) pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100 metres, which is 5 more than permitted. N Newton had his license to ride in picnic race meetings suspended for a period to commence at Midnight 13th of January and to expire at midnight the 26th of January, a period of 3 picnic race meetings. In assessing penalty stewards took into consideration N Newtons guilty plea, his recent record under the rule, the nature of the breach and that his mount had won the race.
