Race 2 BRENNAN CONTRACTING MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres:

Chips in Play prior to correct weight rider C Pace (second past the post) viewed the official film before lodging an objection against the winner Bettina (M Keenan) alleging interference in the straight. It was established that near the 150 when laying out Bettina shifted out making contact with Chips in Play taking it out off its course. Bettina further shifted out again near the 50m again making contact with Chips in Play taking it further out off its course. As Stewards were of the opinion that had the interference not occurred that Chips in Play would have finished in front of Bettina they therefore upheld the objection and amended the placings as follows

At a later inquiry rider M Keenan was advised to make a greater attempt to straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future.

Bellefontein rider G Seccombe was fined the sum of $100 for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m (two more than is permitted).
