Southern Buccaneer Raced wide in the early stages before taking up the lead near the 1200m.Tactics and Performance queried. When questioned rider D Dean explained his was instructed to ride the gelding forward and similar to the way he rode it last start when winning at Balnarring. D Dean explained after being caught wide he elected to pressure his mount along to take up a forward position. He added after taking up the lead the gelding was somewhat reluctant to come back underneath for some distance and for this reason the gelding was under pressure along way from the finish, which resulted in it giving ground in the straight. Whilst the Stewards acknowledged once gaining the leading position it did over race however the Stewards were of the opinion that D Dean could of made a greater effort to restrain his mount and give it a chance to finish off. D Dean conceded that it would have been more beneficial for him to attempt to give the gelding some respite sooner than he did as this would of helped the gelding to finish he race off better than it did.

Race 5 steamatic large loss open handicap - 2000 metres:

Due to the speed of the runners to his inside he was unable to take up a forward position close to the running rail and as the gelding was over racing he was unable to restrain his mount to gain cover, for this reason he elected to allow his mount to stride forward in a wide position without cover.
