Race 1 ANOTHER SPONSOR MAIDEN PLATE - 1608 metres:

Ciao Coni As there was no other senior rider on course, stewards permitted R Douglas to ride the mare 1 kilogram over its declared weight. In taking no further action, stewards accepted R Douglass explanation and circumstances for being overweight on this occasion and notified him that in future he would be expected to ride his mounts at their declared weight.

Wicked Within Reared on jumping losing considerable ground (6L) before commencing to buck for some distance and was then retired from the event by rider M Corbiserio. M Corbiserio was harmlessly dislodged and examined by the on course doctor and was subsequently passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements. Trainer Mr M Templeton was notified that prior to starting again the gelding would be required to complete a trial to the satisfaction of the stewards. M Templeton reported that it was now his intention to retire the gelding.

Follies Performed below market expectations. Rider T Lake stated that in his opinion the mare was not suited to the quick back up following its most recent run at Balnarring on the 15th of January, and failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Three Handles Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Race 2 WONTHAGGI CITIZENS BAND TROPHY (2) HANDICAP - 1608 metres:

Nudey Run - As rider T Lake was unable to make the mares allotted handicap weight, T Lake was replaced by M Keenan, as such T Lake was fined $100 under the provisions of AR120(b) for accepting a ride for which he was overweight. Further T Lake was notified that he would not be permitted to accept rides under 64 kilograms without the permission of stewards going forward. A Post race veterinary examination of Nudey Run identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. Nudey Run shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward.

Ya Crackin Jokes Replated on arrival at the barriers. Slow to begin. Performed below market expectations. Rider M Corbisiero reported that approaching the 400 meters the gelding went amiss in its action and as such he eased it out of the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Taqneen Carried out on straightening by Bojoura which shifted out when laying out.

Bojoura Lay out rounding the home turn.

I Was Stan Shifted out on jumping.

Rock Hard Star Raced wide without cover throughout. Tactics Queried. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, particularly between the 600 meters to the 300 meters, rider Anita Bell stated that she had intended on maintaining her three wide running line through this section of the race, though the gelding commenced to shift out under pressure passing the 500 meters and when she attempted to shift back in to her inside, she received a call from runners back to her inside and therefore elected to maintain a straight path rather than shift back in, which subsequently allowed Toucandan to obtain a run to her inside. A Bell stated that she had erred in judgement in not shifting back to the inside after initially shifting out. Stewards noted her comments.

Bellefontein Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 4 kENNY SHAWS 70TH TROPHY (3) HANDICAP - 1008 metres:

Hell Of A Mess After rearing in the barriers underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently passed fit to run. Slow to begin and then bumped by Shes A Bee which shifted out on jumping. Hung in under pressure in the straight.

Shes A Bee Performed below market expectations. Rider S Logan stated that mare travelled well in the early and middle stages, though when placed under pressure in the straight failed to respond to her riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be mildly sore in both front feet. Shifted out on jumping.

Jayembee Shifted out on jumping. Raced wide without cover throughout. Shifted out under pressure passing the 600 metres.

Race 6 SAN REMO HOTEL OPEN TROPHY RACE HANDICAP - 2008 metres:

Tearaway Tommy Tactics queried. When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted on gelding today, particularly in relation to the significant margin in which the gelding established upon the field in the early and middle stages. Rider D Waymouth stated that it was her intention to lead, which is the geldings established racing pattern and that due to stepping in distance to 2000 metres for the first time, she had expected to lead as the gelding has led at its most recent starts over shorter distances. D Waymouth further added that after beginning well and finding the lead in the early stages the gelding then commenced to race fiercely and over-race despite her efforts to restrain and settle the gelding. D Waymouth stated that after being unable to restrain the gelding in the early stages, she then elected to allow the gelding to stride forward and travel where it was comfortable through the middle stages and therefore established a significant lead upon the remainder of the field, which was not her intention to do so. D Waymouth added that when placed under pressure rounding the home turn the gelding responded fairly to her riding. When questioned trainer R Waymouth stated that it was the stables intentions to ride the gelding in a forward position and that she had instructed D Waymouth that since the horse has a history of over-racing and pulling, to allow the horse to stride forward and not fight the gelding if it did commence to over-race. R Waymouth further added that she had expected the gelding to establish a lead upon the field though did not anticipate Tearaway Tommy leading the field by such margin in which it did. Stewards noted that this was Tearaway Tommys normal racing pattern and the horses racing manners throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. A post race sample was taken for analysis.

Guadalcanal (NZ) Bumped on jumping.
