Dead Ned Ted Bumped on jumping. Hung in under pressure in the straight.

Lara Lad Shifted out on jumping. Lay out rounding the home turn.

Mirabilly Knuckled on jumping before being steadied to avoid the heels of Lara Lad which shifted out on jumping. Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider R Douglas stated that in his opinion there was something amiss with the gelding. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Stormus Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Race 2 ALAN FOX MEMORIAL OPEN TROPHY HANDICAP - 1150 metres:

High Fraar Acting on veterinary advice stewards ordered the withdrawal of the mare at 1.10pm once it was found to be lame behind after becoming cast in the float on route to the course. Trainer Mr David Hill was notified that he would be required to produce a veterinary certificate of fitness for the mare.

Bennys Jet M. Keenan was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR120(b) for accepting a ride for which he was overweight. In assessing penalty stewards noted that this was M. Keenans first offence under this rule and the circumstances surrounding the booking of the engagement. Commenced awkwardly.

Little Queen Vetted on arrival at the barriers after making contact with a fence within the mounting yard, was subsequently passed fit to start. Over-raced throughout.

Belle Ez Commenced awkwardly making contact with the left barrier partition.

Deni Flyer Slow to begin.

Carlsen Raced wide without cover throughout.

Muss Rider C Kirkpatrick was fined $100 under the provisions of AR137(5)(a)(ii) the particulars being that he used his whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100 metres.

Race 3 ALPINE CIVIL TROPHY (2) HANDICAP - 1150 metres:

Lisboa Eagle Eased down over the concluding stages. Rider C Kirkpatrick stated that the gelding travelled well throughout, though when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Fold Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Commenced awkwardly losing ground.

Ragtime Performed below market expectations. Rider M Corbisiero stated that the mare travelled well in the early and middle stages, though once headed passing the 500 metres the mare failed to respond to his riding.

Giftant Slow to begin.

Kenji Doll Lay out rounding the turn passing the 800 metres, as such raced wide without cover throughout.

Secret Place Raced wide without cover throughout. Lay out rounding the home turn.

Secretwina Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running from the 400 metres till the 250 metres before shifting to the outside of Secret Places heels.

Race 4 RODWELLS FOX AG TROPHY (3) HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Ferrero Shortly after the start restrained to obtain cover at the rear of the field. Raced wide without cover from the 600 metres.

Charitable Checked when tightened for room approaching the 100 metres on the first occasion by Miss Coubie (R Kirkpatrick) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Over-raced leaving the straight on the first occasion.

Miss Coubie Rider R Kirkpatrick was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR137(5)(a)(ii) the particulars being that he used his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100 metres. Trainer Mr S Cunningham was fined $30 for the use of the club colours on the mare.

R Kirkpatrick (Miss Coubie) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that approaching the 100 metres on the first occasion, he permitted Miss Coubie to shift in when insufficiently clear of Charitable which had to be checked to avoid heels. R Kirkpatrick has his license to ride in picnic race meetings suspended for a period to commence at midnight 2nd of January and to expire at midnight the 14th of January (2 picnic race meetings). In assessing penalty stewards took into account R Kirkpatricks guilty plea and excellent riding record, and that the carelessness was in the low range.

Race 5 ELDERS MERTON CUP - 1900 metres:

Clovelly Hill As there was no other suitable rider to ride the gelding, stewards permitted T Lake to the gelding 1.5kg overweight. T Lake was fined $100 under the provisions of AR120(b) for accepting a ride for which he was overweight. Passing the 1500 metres when over-racing had to be steadied and got its head in the air when, McNulty (R Douglas) shifted in when laying in. R Douglas was advised to exercise far greater care in similar circumstances.

Godfrey Raced wide without cover from the 800 metres. Lay out rounding the home turn. Performed below market expectations. Rider R Kirkpatrick could offer no explanation for the geldings poor performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Rider R Kirkpatrick was fined $100 under the provisions of AR137(5)(a)(ii) the particulars being that he used his whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100 metres.

Kondoa Slow to begin. Approaching the 200 metres when attempting a neat run between Clovelly Hill and Regal Master had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Regal Master which was commencing to weaken.

Nine Mile Sniper Raced wide in the early stages before striding forward to obtain the lead passing the 1400 metres. Lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Befitting Slow to begin.

Kai Glow Over the concluding stages had to be eased when tightened for room by Nine Mile Sniper which lay in under pressure.

Race 6 MERTON TRADERS OPEN TROPHY HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Fortunefivehundred Gave ground from the 600 metres before being eased down by its rider. T Lake could offer no explanation for the geldings poor performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Delrazzi Shifted out on jumping. Tactics queried. When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted on the mare today, specifically in regard to the lead in which he established upon the field, rider C Kirkpatrick stated that it had been his intention to lead today, though he did not anticipate to lead by the significant margin in which he did. C Kirkpatrick added that he had planned to allow the mare to stride in a similar fashion to its most recent start at Kyneton on the 23rd of December. C Kirkpatrick stated that he had erred in establishing such a lead upon the field and that in hindsight he should have attempted to restrain the mare through the early and middle stages. Stewards noted his comments.

Luskin Belle Slow to begin. Tactics queried. When questioned in relation to the distance in which he trailed the field particularly throughout the early and middle stages, rider R Goodwin stated that after being slow to begin the mare was reluctant to stride out through the early stages despite his efforts to ride it along, and that due to the fast tempo set by Delrazzi the mare was unable to maintain contact with the field through the early stages. R Goodwin further added that he placed the mare under pressure from the 800 metres at which point it responded to his riding only fairly and in his opinion may not have appreciated todays Good 3 track conditions.
