Woolamai Report
by Brad Best
After sweltering through an Indian summer at Alexandra and Balnarring, picnic racegoers felt the brunt of an early winter at Woolamai, leaving many to ponder what on earth happened to autumn. Despite difficult riding conditions, punters were kept entertained throughout the afternoon with quality racing taking place between sporadic bursts of wind and rain.
Congratulations to Dani Walker who rode a winning double on the day, leaving her best work to last with dominant victories in races five and six aboard Fontainette ($3.20) and Cheeky Wizard ($4.40) respectively.
Earlier in the afternoon, Clay Beasy steered home even-money favourite Storm Rider to a solid three-length victory in the opening race of the day; while Matthew Corbisiero made the most of his late call-up aboard Trevor by taking out the San Remo Hotel Maiden Handicap by two-and-a-half lengths.
Race three provided the closest finish of the day with favourite Perisher Blue pipping Umanugget at the post to deliver the in-form combination of Stephanie Dorning and Kim Mayberry another victory for the 2012/13 season. In race four, Adam Bodey again proved to punters why he is still King of the Picnics by smashing his rivals to the tune of five lengths aboard Jive Music.
