Woolamai Report - by Brad Best
Under clear skies, Woolamai Racing Club put on another magnificent picnic race meeting with a host of families taking advantage of the pleasant conditions to give the beach a miss and detour inland for an enjoyable day at the races. Riding honours were shared on the day with six different jockeys taking turns to salute in the victory stall.

In race one, local favourite Just Jordie again triumphed at home with apprentice jockey Grant Seccombe making the most of his three kilogram claim to kick clear in the straight for a crowd-pleasing win on the evergreen nine-year-old. Race two saw another apprentice, Michael Kent, win in similar fashion aboard second favourite Beijing Beauty. With victories like these, it won’t be long before we see these two jockeys ride out their claim.

In race three, punters cheered home Clayton Douglas aboard the well-tried favourite Little Miss Izzy while in race four, Angela Bence, with a perfectly-timed ride on second favourite Biscay Diamond, flashed home from last on the turn to catch hot favourite Alfal on the line.

Race five produced the most dominant victory of the day with in-form five-year-old King Can Sing making it five wins from eight starts for jockey Stephanie Dorning and trainer Kim Mayberry. Surely the title of Picnic Horse of the Year is just around the corner.

In the final race of the day, Ken’s 70th Birthday Bash Open Trophy Race, Matthew Corbisiero produced a near flawless ride aboard Dukedom to consign the luckless Adam Bodey to his third second placing for the day. In related news, it is understood that Ken is recovering well after a solid performance at his aforementioned Bash.

Congratulations to all the winners and, in particular, Woolamai Racing Club for another fantastic day at the races.
