Yea Xmas Special....
This week we return to Yea picnic racecourse given the Healesville track is still in trouble with water damage. Yea would have to rate as the best viewing track for the public on the picnic circuit and it is a pleasant drive up the Melba Hwy. Early nominations indicate we should get a great day's racing at Yea.
Corey Snags a Double....
Up and coming young apprentice jockey Corey Jones has got off to a good start this season with an early riding double at yesterday's Balnarring Xmas meeting. Corey booted home the Ricky Maund trained Encroacher at $8-00 and the second favourite Tuscany Lad trained by Quinton Scott at $3-50. Quinton has not had a lot of runners at the picnics recently compared with past years so you could be sure when he arrived with one it would be tuned up. First up from a spell but after recently winning a trial at Tatura the 7yo gelding appreciated the drop to picnic class and won well.
Following is a three part review of the day produced by Racing Banc....enjoy.
RacingBanc.com were the sponsors of the main race of the day won by Encroacher defeating the favourite Beacons in a close finish. Other riding riding honours went to Adam Bodey who also rode a double aboard Whenwegoineast and the Dianne Clover trained Gloria's Peak.
Whitney Hurst won the last on Dame Melba to fly the flag for the female jockeys who were winning everything last season. Last year's award winning Runner Up Rider of the Year Danielle Daniel has had a slow start to the season and yet to ride a winner with limited opportunities.
With a winning strike rate last season of 28% there was no-one better and she equalled top rider Adam Bodey's winning percentage. With some more opportunities I am sure it won't be long before we see her back in the winner's circle.
