Yea Report.....

With the co-operation of the Committees of both Yea and Healesville Picnic Racing Clubs the meeting at Yea turned out a huge success and witnessed what was probably the biggest crowed at the track in years. With the flood problems at Healesville, plans were put in place to encourage the large contingent of marquees hosting their Xmas functions to migrate up the highway. All went to plan and the entire length of the area adjacent to the home straight was filled hosting up to 600 racegoers.

Many people got their first taste of the Yea track and were pleasantly surprised how this gem of a course with it's great facilities and public viewing was not something they had been privledged to experience before.

Even the weather treated us well whilst Melbourne was whipped by storms it was not until the last race was finished that the heavens opened and gave the course a well needed drink after the days races.

The riding highlights of the day went to Adam Bodey who rode a treble and also to Joseph Cunningham who at his first race ride won aboard Saks at $2-40 fav. The other two races on the card went to the improving apprentice Clayton Douglas aboard Hannah Girl and Shiralee Waddell on Spirit of Kintyre. Shiralee has had two rides since becoming a mother, for two winners aboard this 6yo mare by Mull of Kintyre.

Joseph Cunningham wins at his first race ride aboard Saks.

Next weeks racing returns to Yea for their annual Xmas meeting with the feature race being the Sister Olive Hcp and it already looks like being well attended with early bookings in the order of 600 patrons for marquees. For all those who experienced Yea this weekend, and especially the rendition of Advance Australia Fair by the groom "to be" dressed so fashionably as a bride I am sure patrons will have found this to be a must attend venue on the picnic racing calendar.

Picnic punter Ken Pitcher has supplied a video clip of yesteryear and put out a challenge to all picnic followers to guess the name of the racecaller. Picnicbet.com will sponsor a $20 betting voucher to the first person who posts the answer to the picnic racing Facebook site.

See the video clip of the final 400m, the audio kicks in just after they turn for home. To give you a hint, it is not Greg Miles, Victoria Shaw, Ben Sporle, Ed Sadler or Fred Smith.

The winner can collect their betting voucher from Peter Bon's betting stand at any picnic meeting.
