Floods Welcome in the New Season Derby Day started the 2010/11 Picnic Racing season in style at Healesville and despite the predicitions of a very wet day, all was fine at Healesville whilst Flemington suffered under the rain. Well, that was until the second last race when the weather finally closed in on Healesville and by the last race everyone was running for cover except the jockeys and officials that faced up to the last event.
The rain got heavier and eventually flooded the racetrack when Watts River running beside the track burst its banks.
Healesville Racetrack Flooding
Despite the rain, racing was good and once again Adam Bodey started the season in fine style riding 4 of the 6 race winners. Crowds were down due to the weather predictions, hopefully the track is back in order for the meeting in a fortnight.
Fortunately, the Healesville club have sealed the bookmaker's betting ring over the break which made for some dry refuge during the downpour.
Chuckawheely returned Dani Walker to the winners list and repeated an earlier effort when winning here in a past season.
Chuckawheely wins in a tight finish.

Mansfield Picnic Cup on Melbourne Cup Day
The Mansfield Melbourne Cup Day meeting was a great success and patrons avoided the wet weather at Flemington to enjoy a good days racing. The Mansfield Picnic Cup was taken out by the Neil Dyer trained Cape Danger who lumped the huge weight of 74.5kg to an easy victory over Gold Viper and the locally trained Bianall.
Whitney Hurst has returned this season with a vengeance and rode a double on the day. At this rate she will soon outride here 3kg claim. Congratulations to Neil Robb who trained both horses.
