Picnic Bookies Always a Better Bet !

Balnarring Report Saturday 26th January 2008
Despite Australia Day falling on a Saturday rather than a weekday public holiday there were still plenty of people making their annual pilgrimage to Balnarring for a great days racing. The first event went to Court's Order, the well backed second favourite made up for its recent defeat at Woolamai when beaten into 3rd place as a short priced favourite. The short priced favourite in this race Nothin' But a Star was a disappointment and missed the placings.

After the scratching of Dane Luger in race two, it became an open affair with the form of the field somewhat ordinary. Trappy's Lad who won here last season decided to put his best hoof forward and came home down the outside to win. A turnaround from his recent form where he had run last or close to it at all six starts this preparation.

Race three went to Interlocutor who was returning from a spell. Well in the betting, this horse had previous good first up form and appreciated the drop to picnic class.

The Balnarring Cup saw last years winner Esceegee go out a short priced favourite only to fail by a short margin to the patiently ridden Chatter Brooke. With Esceegee and Distraction setting a reasonable pace and both carrying over 70kgs, Chatter Brooke was able to sit behind and come home over the top with only 64.5kg on her back.

The fifth race on paper looked the race for Catino Belle to break its maiden status after 16 earlier unsuccessful attempts. As a short priced $1.70 favourite the mare had the race in its keeping after turning for home and came home strongly down the outside to win well.

Agent Frost appreciated the return to its home track and took out the last race of the day when well ridden by Debbie Waymouth securing a rails run on the turn.

Yea Report Sunday 27th January 2008
It had been some time since racing was held at Yea given their first and only meeting earlier in the season was cancelled. The place was looking a picture after recent rains and the track was in good condition. The first race was a bit disappointing with only three runners and they finished in their expected betting order with Tate Modern winning easily from Gottagetaboost.

The next race went to Prince of Cards who beat the well tried Super Shag with a long gap to the rest of the field.

The very heavily backed Deep Rule won the third race, dropping in class from some good Class 1 professional races to the weaker picnic races.

Sly Jester easily took out the fourth race and was heavily backed from $3.20 into $2.00. The fifth race went to the consistent Our Sordaledo Bay who has now won all three of its picnic runs.

The final race went to Kane Harris aboard Rickitic and it gave that jockey a winning treble for the day.

Our Sorsaledo Bay comes home strongly to make it 3 picnic wins from 3 starts. Video courtesy of Video Air Services, servicing all your picnic video & photography needs.
